Doc/Fest

  • mobile

A cross-platform mobile app for international film and documentary festival Doc/Fest. The brief was to have a scheduling app that would pull data in from the websites API to display events, venues and speakers for the festival. It also needed to work across Android, IOS and Blackberry.

The solution was to build a hybrid app using Apache Cordova and the Angular JS framework. Making this choice gave us the tools needed to build a fast, responsive and scalable app that met all of the clients expectations efficiently. The app featured calendar management, twitter feed, maps with GPS positioning, weather forecasts and push notifications managed from a bespoke web based interface.

The data was pulled in from a RESTful API interface and used both local storage and IndexedDB to keep data available when offline. This was a great and enjoyable challenge, using everything Cordova and Angular had to offer to make a well received and popular app.

This app was completed under my employment with Uber Agency.
